My name is Femke Terpstra and I prefer to be outside. A couple of years ago I moved to a house with a garden. To my surprise I couldn’t find any outdoor furniture I really liked. Most outdoor furniture was grey and plastic. Quite a big contrast with a colourful garden.

I remembered a beautiful old garden chair from the 1950’s I found left at the side of the street many years ago. I redesigned the chair and the brand ‘Hollyhock’ was born. Hollyhocks are my favourite flowers because they manage to pop up everywhere and even colour up a brick landscape.

The wooden frame of the chair is hand-made by a small Dutch woodworking family business. The business started  in 1928 in a small town just above Amsterdam. Today, the business is managed by his grandson. His dad still works in the workshop and his mom serves the daily coffee and lunch.

The chair is made out of
eco-friendly beechwood from Luxembourg. The solid fabric used for the chair is 100 % Sunbrella. The most durable outdoor fabric that offers the feel of cotton, but doesn’t fade or degrade. The fabric is easy to clean and can last a lifetime.
